Ideas for School/Public Collaborations/Programs

 

Good ideas as recognized by group discussion at August 14th, A+ Meeting. 

 

ENGAGING TEENS (see more: ENGAGING TEENS )

 

  • Teen mentoring for older
  • Mother/daughter spa
  • Cake decorating for teens – just before Mother’s Day
  • Quilting program – cross generation

 

SHARED SERVICES (see more: SHARED SERVICES )

 

  • Back to school night
  • Best practices clearinghouse
  • In-service day training for school/public library in the public library
  • Orientation for public librarians at school
  • Workshop for parents so they know what is available (joint program) – back to school night
  • Share newsletters/calendars so libraries know what others are doing – link back/forth
  • Public library sends flyer to media center
  • Schools announcing (in a.m.) public library happenings

 

TEEN VOLUNTEERS (see more: VOLUNTEER POWER)

  • Reward teens for time – letters/ certificates 

     

  • Teen appreciation (volunteer) event – countywide?
  • Have teens do programs

     

  • TAB/FOL collaboration (book sale)

     

  • Have teen members or friends group
  • Teens on library board (Princeton -- Susan Conlon, PPL for more info)
  • Refer to teens as “Citizens of Tomorrow”
  • Refer to Teen area/Library as "community learning center"
